A new report on womens' rights in Haiti has just been issued. Thirty one pages long, it is titled, "Our Bodies Are Still Trembling: Haitian Women Continue to Fight Against Rape." The report is authored by MADRE; the International Women’s Human Rights (IWHR) Clinic at the City University of New York (CUNY) School of Law; the Institute for Justice & Democracy in Haiti (IJDH); the Bureau des Avocats Internationaux (BAI); and the Lawyers’ Earthquake Response Network (LERN).
The report is attached here. Or you can go to the websites of the authoring organizations to read and download it. Contact information for them is contained in the report.
MADRE and its Haitian partner organization KOFAVIV as well as the IJDH have been working for years on issues of womens rights in Haiti. You will find reports and other documentation on their websites, including the IJDH's Rape Accountability and Prevention Project.
The director of one of the authoring organizations of the report, Mario Joseph of the Bureau des avocats internationaux, will speak at public forums in Montreal on January 23 and 24 and in Ottawa on January 22. For more information on these events, see here: ttp://canadahaitiaction.ca/events.
On January 21 in Montreal, Mr. Joseph will meet with lawyers and other legal professionals to discuss how they can assist the work of human rights workers and lawyers in Haiti. For more information on that meeting, contact this website at canadahaiti(at)gmail.com, or phone 778 858 5179.
